It seems like a lot of folks are depressed about the recession/depression, whatever name you give it. And certainly there are reasons for concern...in many areas. It affects all of us and some in major ways but the truth is...its not all bad. Folks are eating at home more...conserving more...saving more...doing more less costly, more simple things together...and that's good. I believe it causes us to a large degree to rethink our priorities and that certainly a good thing. Do I really need that...do I have to have that...is that truly important.
While I think these things privately, you really have to look for the good news. Oh yeah, most of the major evening news networks tend to close with a feel good story of some sort but that's not what traditionally sells news...its bad news that sells. But its the good news that gives us hope and makes us feel good. Here's a bit of good news from today's Houston Barnicle.
The Recession Could Actually Be Good for You!!
Yes, that's right, good for you. I'll let you read the article for yourself but suffice to say the Great Depression is described as the "low point" of the 20th century, it lasted for four years, unemployment reached almost 23% but public health was never better. During difficult times you may have to look harder for good news...but its always there!!
Slow down...stay home...eat a home cooked meal together...save some money...spend time with family...take a nap. It's all really good for you.
I think its nap time...cya,

A lotta things I'm not!!
Sometimes defining what you are not is easier than deciding who you are. I think those things you're not say an awful lot about who you are. This is not all that well thought out so don't be expecting anything profound. That's how my blogging goes, when it goes. I'm not an alarmist!! I don't think the sky is falling. I don't believe the terrorists will win...but neither will the Astros if that tells you anything. I didn't believe the Texans would win yesterday but they did. I don't believe that "global warming" is all our fault...the cows are some to blame for all that gas, but I digress. I guess that puts me against the cows who say "Eat mor chickin." Yes, I know this is pretty lame. I truly believe I'm not a racist...although all of us have tendencies we can't ignore and should try to deal with.
I don't believe the Muslims will take over the world but I am concerned with what I see and with what most folks seem to be ignoring. They are in fact intending to dominate the world. That seems to be their way of evangelism. If you don't think so...just note that this year however, President Obama, decided to cancel the ceremony at the White House not wanting to offend anyone. They will however have Islam on Capitol Hill this year. On September 25, 2009 from 4am until 7pm, a National Day of Prayer for the Muslim religion will be held on Capitol Hill, beside the White House.
I am a Christian. I am an American. I don't believe we should run them all out but I do think we must stand up and defend our rights and stop going quietly into the night while they evangelize our country. Just my thoughts for today. Be aware folks!!

Note from a friend
This is a note from a friend Mark, who is currently in the military in Afghanistan. The bride and I are privileged to call lots of young people our friends, most of whom started as our children's friends or those who were a part of a youth group when that was our ministry. They have now grown and some have their own children, who I am amused to watch and will be privileged to see them grow and give them some of the same troubles they gave their parents. That's just the way it goes. Add Mark to your prayers if you would and all those who are with him.

From Mark ----
Things are going pretty well here. I don't remember if I told y'all or not, but I have internet in my tent. Also, next month, we're supposed to move to a hard site (actual building) which, hopefully, will be a better situation for us.
It's cooling down a lot which is especially noticeable at night and somewhat noticeable during the day. We use a heater from about midnight to 6 in the morning and then it's all A/C.
I got my toughbox yesterday which is basically a big box of personal stuff that we packed about a month before we left. I finally have some real pillows and a comfy blanket, not to mention my Bible study books which is good seeing as I'm coordinating with the Chaplain to start a Bible study here since we don't have services. The Chaplain isn't actually here with us, so I'm taking over.
Missions are going well, though they are usually longer than they really need to be in my personal opinion. Other than that, I guess I don't have too much to say.
Love y'all,
Mark
